Dai Lanh
Đại Lãnh
Dai Lanh (Đại Lãnh) is a beach at the northern end of Khanh Hoa province, Vietnam, in Dai Lanh commune on National Route 1 below the Ca Pass[1][2]. OpenStreetMap maps the beach at 12.8268°N, 109.3586°E, in that commune[3].
Resolution 1667/NQ-UBTVQH15 of 16 June 2025 arranged the whole of the former Van Thanh, Van Tho and Dai Lanh communes into a new commune named Dai Lanh, operating from 1 July 2025[7]; Vietnamese Wikipedia summarises the same act as only Van Thanh and Van Tho merged into Dai Lanh, which would make it an enlargement rather than a new unit[1]. The commune covers 171.04 km², with a 2025 population of 25,644 at a density of 150 people per km², and is divided into 15 hamlets[1]. It is the northernmost commune of Khanh Hoa, bordering Dak Lak province to the north and Tu Bong commune to the south[1].
The name Dai Lanh is also carried by the mountain range that the Ca Pass crosses[2] and by a cape with a lighthouse on the far side of that pass, which Vietnamese Wikipedia now lists under Dak Lak province[5].
Location
The beach lies on the coast of Dai Lanh commune at the northern edge of Khanh Hoa province, below the Ca Pass on National Route 1[1][2]. OpenStreetMap maps it as a beach feature at 12.8268°N, 109.3586°E, within the commune[3].
Vietnamese Wikipedia places the commune at 12°50′30″N 109°21′22″E and describes Dai Lanh as the northernmost commune of the province, bordering Dak Lak to the north and Tu Bong commune to the south[1]. No published figure for the length of the beach itself was found on any page fetched for this article.
The commune since 2025
Resolution 1667/NQ-UBTVQH15 of 16 June 2025 arranged the whole of the former Van Thanh, Van Tho and Dai Lanh communes of Van Ninh district into a new commune named Dai Lanh, operating from 1 July 2025[7]. Vietnamese Wikipedia summarises the same act as the two former communes of Van Thanh and Van Tho merged into Dai Lanh, which would make the present commune an enlargement of the old one rather than a new unit[1].
The enlarged commune covers 171.04 km² and had a population of 25,644 in 2025, a density of 150 people per km², and is divided into 15 hamlets[1].
Dai Lanh, Mui Doi and Mui Dien
Three places share or nearly share the name, and they are not in the same province. The beach and its commune are in Khanh Hoa. Mui Dai Lanh, also called Mui Dien, is a cape with a lighthouse to the north of the pass; Vietnamese Wikipedia places it in Hoa Xuan commune, listed under Dak Lak province, but gives its position a minute of latitude apart on two pages: the cape's own article says 12°53′48″N 109°27′25″E[5], while the comparison on the Mui Doi article says 12°52′48″N 109°27′06″E[4]. The lighthouse there was built by French engineers in 1890, stands 26.5 m above its base and 110 m above sea level, and is visible to shipping up to 27 nautical miles away[5].
Which cape is the easternmost point of the Vietnamese mainland was disputed between Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen. Measurements put Mui Doi, on the Hon Gom peninsula in Dai Lanh commune, at 12°38′39″N 109°27′50″E, further east than Mui Dien at 12°52′48″N 109°27′06″E[4]. Vietnamese Wikipedia records Mui Doi as the easternmost point on the mainland[4] and Mui Dai Lanh as the second[5]. A triangular granite monument at Mui Doi was built between 2016 and 2017 and unveiled in 2017[4]. Mui Doi lies about 80 km north of Nha Trang and about 35 km south of Tuy Hoa[4].
The pass and the road
Ca Pass climbs from the commune over the Dai Lanh range, which shares the commune's name. Vietnamese Wikipedia gives the pass a length of 12 km and a highest point of 333 m, with its southern side in Dai Lanh commune and its northern side in Hoa Xuan commune, Dak Lak[2].
National Route 1 runs along the shore at Dai Lanh before climbing the pass. Nhan Dan reported that the road over Ca Pass and the neighbouring Co Ma pass was blocked by landslides and deep flooding from about 01:30 on 20 November 2025, including at Km1352+900 and at the Song Van bridge at Km1351+700 in Dai Lanh commune, and that traffic resumed at 14:00 on 21 November 2025[6].
